Mr. Tam Tao On (i.e. Tam In Hoi), Mr. Li Yam Chiu (i.e.

Li Tsai Sham), Mr. Chu Yik Chi (i.e. Chu Pai Tak), at Canton and Mr. Tseung Kai Shek and Mr. Li Tak Lun (i.e. Li Chung Yan), at Cheung Sha, and all Chambers of Commerce and the Press in Tarious Provinces.

I have for my object the proper protection of the territories under my jurisdiction and the maintenance of general peace among the people, with a view to saving them from being dragged into the disastrous whirlpool of

er.

I have never had any change in this object despite the pressing clounds of war all around me. Recently a telegraphic report has been received from Chief Commander Tang (Yu Teuk) in Kiangsi to the effect that the Cantonese troops in Hu-nan all of a sudden attacked Ping Heung in Kiangai on the 6th. I have instructed my troops to keep back for 100 lei and I beg that you will also have the Cantonese troops withdrawn without delay, so as to avoid misunderstanding. If you fail to consider my advice as expedient and continue to march your troops forward so as to make me unable to safeguard my territories and protect my people, I will, thagh weak and diffident, seek to fulfil my duty towards the people of the 5 Privinces.

I hope you will take my earnest suggestion into your consideration.

Sun Chun Fong.
